Writers’ Journal #56 – Murder on the island resort – Part 12

Spread the love

The murderer and the bodies in resort building. The thought of it chilled both of us. I looked around in hope that I could find some clues or whatever but I couldn’t see anything amiss. In despair , we walked down the staircase towards the dining room when Mrs Jamie suddenly collapsed. The only reason she didn’t fell down the all the way down the stair case was because her hand caught the knob at the upper stair.

I quickly went up the stairs towards her to catch her before falling again and managed to bring her to the sofa at the lobby. She lied down on the sofa and I brought her a cup of water to calm her down.

“I am so sorry about this. I just can’t take  it anymore” , said Mrs Jamie in her weakest voice so far.

“Its ok. Just lie down for a while and you will be ok. I will get the rest and see to it that you are carried to  your room.” , I replied.

“Oh and I also broke the knob I think. I heard it crack when I applied my body weight to it just now” , sighed Mrs Jamie.

I looked at the knob she held to and sure enough , it was out of alignment. Strangely , I thought , so is the grand grandfather clock at the top of the staircase. It had turned slight to the right. My first gut instinct was that during the fall , Mrs Jamie first held on to the clock then the knob. So I climbed back at the staircase on the way to call u the rest and I couldn’t believe what my eyes saw at the top of the staircase.

There was a space behind the grandfather clock! So the knob must have acted like a lever to open the secret room or tunnel behind the clock. I stood for a while looking back and forth at the clock and the knob like a kid that just found the candy store. So if there was a secret entrance behind the clock , there must have been other secrets in the resort as well.
