Writers’ Journal #57 – Murder on the island resort – Part 13

I looked back at the sofa where Mrs Jamie was lying a few moment ago saw it empty. She was standing besides me , with her mouth wide open. She looked at me and I looked at her. Suddenly , all those turned up missing with a puff started to make sense. Somehow , the culprit must have used those secret rooms (or tunnels?) to carry the bodies elsewhere from the resort.

“You know , ” , whispered Mrs Jamie. “Before I arrived , I did some research into this resort and this used to be a medical facility during World War II”

“Of course , this was how the patients and doctors were trained to escape should the enemy ever landed here.” , I added.

“Probably. What should we do now? Wake the others?” , asked Mrs Jamie. Clearly , she was no longer in her fainting spell.

“No. No.” , I stopped her thoughts.

I explained to her that doing so might have alerted the murderer that his , or her , secret had been discovered. It would make him more cautious in the future. We need to catch him in the act so the best is to pretend that we never found that secret and kept it within ourselves.

“Are you not curious what or where does this secret door lead to?” , asked Mrs Jamie , smiling with the excitement of a child being given a box of chocolate. I could see clearly that she was so excited that her whole body was shaking tremendously. Her eyes shone like a lighthouse in the middle of the night.

The clock chimed and we heard it loud and clear it was midnight. Without further ado , we slowly crept into the darkness.
