The time was half past five and Mrs Jeremiah was late for her usual tea session. The sun was setting and gentle breeze was blowing but she was sweating profusely from running after the bus. Finally , she boarded the bus and sat near the exit.
She took out her handkerchief and wiped the sweat flowing down from her forehead. She may not be late after all , she thought. Mrs Jeremiah relaxed and reflected on the past tea sessions. It was an idea that Mary , her best friend in high school , came up with a few years back and the rest of her classmates agreed.
So in no time , they set up their own informal meeting every first Sunday of the month and Mrs Jeremiah had been ever presence since. Each of them took their turn to host the event and today was Mary’s turn. While lost in thought , the hand phone rang.
“Hello , are you on the way?” , asked a familiar voice.
“Yes dear. The bus just left the church just now” , replied Mrs Jeremiah.
“Could you do me a favor dear? I was preparing a cake and ran out of flour. Could you alight in front of the supermarket and grab a few packs?”
“Sure. Anything else?” , replied Mrs Jeremiah.
“No. That would be all. Thanks!. See ya!” , the caller hanged up.
Mrs Jeremiah smiled. Knowing Mary , she sort of anticipated that such things would happen. Mary , she remembered , was always had her head in the cloud. Before she could complete her thoughts , the bus turned right suddenly , making her lose her balance. That was the signal that she was to alight from the bus to grab the flour her friend ordered.
The rest of the journey had passed by quickly and in no time there were a group of old friends were happily sipping tea in a garden.
The End.
