Spread the love

Mary stood aside for Malee and the translator to come into the room and then after Malee had placed the bag on the table, signalled her to leave the room with her. Malee nodded and left George with the elderly gentleman and followed Mary outside of the room after closing the door.

“Malee, next time, please tell me where you are. I need to arrange you.” said Mary, once the door was closed.

“Sorry, Mary. I couldn’t sleep and then I thought George’s room was very messy and then George asked me to bring him his breakfast.” replied Malee in a hurry.

“Good job but next time just let me know ok?” smiled Mary. “Have you had your breakfast?”

“No.” said Malee. She then realized the subtle but growing hunger from all those activities in the early morning.

“Lets go and have breakfast. Come.” said Mary as they walked down the stairs to the kitchen.

“We are not having breakfast with the rest?” asked Malee as they enter the main kitchen.

“No. They have their own orders for them to do. It will be till the party is over in 2 days. Can you bring me the bread from the basket there?” asked Mary.

Soon, they were preparing toast bread with fried omelette with bacons. Maybe it was the fact that she was having it at the same table as the family or that the bread was better than what she usually had with others, but the breakfast tasted much better. Then the door to the kitchen opened with George coming in. Both Mary and Malee stood up from their breakfast with surprise.

“Oh, it’s ok. He wants a few beers bottles so I come down myself.” said George as he opened the chiller door and took out a few alcohol bottles. “Oh, and how is the bacon? Georgia brought it from Norway. Taste better than others, she said. I myself can’t find the difference.”

“It’s very good” replied Malee to George, immediately after he had asked. In hindsight, she shouldn’t have said it because it was obvious she had never had such upmarket meat before. She realized her error and looked down at the breakfast plate.

“I think it is better in texture than those from US.” added Mary. George whistled and left with a bottle in each hand back to his room. Both Mary and Malee sat down again and continued with their breakfast with different thoughts in their minds. Malee was pinching at herself for replying too quickly to George and making a fool of herself. Mary too was wondering but on how to make Malee fit into the privileged crowd in 2 days that remaining. Both of them, lost in their own thoughts, finished up the breakfast without even registering any tastes. Then the door opened again, and it was Georgia that time.

“I am bored. Let’s go shopping again!” declared Georgia. It would be just another request from her on any other day, but they were too close to the party and Mary had little time for Georgia’s whinings. Mary sighed. She couldn’t possibly be training Malee, while preparing for George fiance and keeping Georgia happy. Georgia realised the look from Mary’s face and realized the issue.

“Or, why not let Malee accompany me for the day? Is she doing anything?” asked Georgia, correcting her mistake from before. Mary was more agreeable to the latter request since although she would like to have Malee to help out with her with the tasks, it would not be that bad if she could use Malee to satisfy Georgia. Perhaps Malee could learn a few things from Georgia.

“Yes. Why not? She would need to look out for you during the event.” smiled Mary. She would kill not just 2 birds but multiple birds with a single stone.

“Ok. Once you are done with the breakfast, come up to my room.” said Georgia before turning around to leave the dining room.

Malee nodded and finished whatever was left on her plate before quickly cleaning the plate and leaving for the door.

“Hold on, Malee. Take a quick shower and change your clothes first before going up.” said Mary, stopping Malee from meeting Georgia in her overnight dress and sweat from cleaning up George’s room in the early morning. She knew George wouldn’t mind, but Georgia definitely would.
