Malee stood up and walked into the kitchen with Malee and her son, Michael, carefully looking at her legs. Once she came into the kitchen, Malee could see the smoke rising from the dishes. She sat down at her usual place and looked around the table. It seemed everyone was aware of her ordeals under Georgia. There were sympathetic looks everywhere and everyone started asking her on her ankles till Mary had to stop them so that Malee could have lunch peacefully.

“I am fine now. Thanks for asking.” replied Malee to everyone before turning to Mary. “I think I will go back to Georgia’s room in the evening. I need more practice.” said Malee.

“You sure you are fine?” asked Mary, raising one eyebrow.

“Yes. The pain took me by surprise, but I had handled more pain than this. Don’t worry.” reassured Malee to Mary who still wasn’t sure if Malee was well enough to take on the high-heel one more time soon. But she had issues of her own to resolve.

“Ok, Be careful.” said Mary before resuming to clear the plates. Malee volunteered to help, but everyone pushed away her so she had no choice but to went out of the kitchen to her room. As usual practice after lunch, she tried to take a nap but found it difficult due to not being able to turn sideways in fear of the pain returning to her ankles. She had to contend with sitting upright on the bed and closing her eyes as she used to when she was on the street selling fried potatoes. That was the only way she could safely take much needed rest on the road without being hit by the cars.

Once she felt she had enough rest, she slowly made her way to the bathroom for a shower and quick change before leaving for the main house. On the way, she met Michael, who was watering the flowers in the garden. He looked up at Malee and without saying a word, took out the medicine bottle from his left pant’s pocket and passed to her. Malee accepted the bottle with a slight bow and continued towards the main house.

In no time, she was once again in front of Georgia’s room.

*Knock* *Knock*

“Come in.” said the voice from inside the room. Malee pushed the door opened to find both the twins, George and Georgia inside the room. Both of them raised their eyebrows upon seeing Malee coming into the room.

“Shouldn’t you be resting?” asked George with the worried look on his face.

“I am ok. I just need more practice to get used to wearing heels,” replied Malee. Georgia said nothing but pointed at the bottom of the table where the same pair high-heels that Malee wore that morning were at. Malee went over to the table and picked up the high-heels and sat down at the chair nearby. With both the twins still watching her, she put on the high heels and tried to stand up slowly. She could feel the pain coming back, but then she was expecting it the second time, so it didn’t feel as bad as during the morning. She took a few careful steps and turned towards the twins.

“I think I am fine. Can I wear it for the whole day?” asked Malee. Georgia nodded. George said nothing and left for the door.

“Isn’t he curious?” smiled Georgia. “He was coming over to ask me what was she like.” continued Malee.

“Who?” asked Malee.

“His fiance.” replied Georgia with an annoyed look on her face. Georgia wondered how could anyone be so alive yet clueless what was happening in the house. Of all the servants and Mary, Malee should have known better, Georgia wondered. Malee looked like an innocent child in the eyes of Georgia, but then so do most people, including her parents. Only her brother would escape that look, for she had much better respect for him than she had for most people, including her professors at the university.

“How is your feet now?” asked Georgia.

“Much better. Thanks.”

“Make sure you walk slowly. And walk around with a cup in your hand.” said Georgia, handing out the wine cup on the table to Malee. Malee nodded and held the cup in her right hand and started walking around the room as Georgia had shown her earlier. Soon, she didn’t even realize that she was wearing a high heel and thought she could even run with that. Georgia looked at Malee’s pacing up and down the room for a while before closing her eyes for a rest. She had much to do the next day, and she needed rest.
