It was quiet. Too quiet for a group of women gathering in the field or so Thomas thought to himself. He had been observing them from the morning and he heard nothing but birds chirping.
At first he thought they were mutes from nearby school for the disabled but then he noticed one of them was in front of him when he was ordering the ice-cream and heard her speak perfectly to the seller. After that , he went for a short walk around the park , only to come back to the same spot.
Thomas had works to do. Office documents , papers to sign , emails to reply but he couldn’t get his mind off the group in front of him. He raised his head several time in quick succession to glanced at the group but they remained firmly seated in the same position.
Finally , he gave up. He didn’t come to the park to get his mind distracted with such trivialities. Indeed , he came here with the great aim , to catch up on the work that he ignored while traveling around Europe for a month. And there were a mountain of work to be done!
The sun had set before he looked at the watch in the pocket. It was almost time for dinner and Jane , his wife , would be expecting him back at home soon. He slowly stood up , stretched his legs and started to pack the papers lying around the grass.
Then he looked up. In his surprise , the strange group of women remained as he had seen them hours back. He was angry. He could no longer hold back. He slammed the leather bag , and marched right towards the group and demanded to know who they are!
They stared at him but no words came out from their mouth. For a while , they did not move then they turned to look at each other with wide opened eyes. And then they looked at Thomas again. And it went on for several minutes.
Thomas felt hopeless. He just went back to his place , picked up his bag and slowly walked towards the exit. When he was near the gate , a large man approached and asked him.
“Have you seen a group of mimes anywhere in the park?”
