“Join us Michael! Come on!” , shouted Jenny with a smile.

Everyone knew Michael was a born loser but Jenny had a soft spot for him. It wasn’t just that they grew up together or went to same school but there was something about him that endeared to her. But that sentiment wasn’t shared by any of their friends who simply treated Michael as a loser.

Michael was not only bad in academic , he also sucked at sports. And he was short and fat to add insult and combination was that he was no one’s friend. He would have been left alone , except for the fact that he was the best friend of Home Coming Queen , Jenny.

In contrast , Jenny was everything that Michael was not. Her excellent grades were only topped by her athletic skills. She was not only the lead cheerleader but also the top gymnast in school’s history as well. Needless to say , there were plenty of nicknames for them at their back , popularly known as “Beauty and the Beast”.

It was right after a midnight party , one of which Michael wasn’t invited , and one of them suggested they visit the old hospital near the town’s cemetery. It was reputed to be haunted by the staff of the hospital who died during the flu outbreak years back. They were on the way when they saw Michael on the way home alone.

Michael joined in , much to the chagrin of the rest , and off they went to the hospital. It was pitch dark by the time they reached the gate but luckily they brought the torchlight. They went into the hospital and found a spot inside the former patients’ waiting room to settle down.

Then they saw ghosts. They ran as fast as the could. Michael left out of the pack. Jenny went back to help him. But only Michael emerged from the building with Jenny nowhere to be seen.
