Lets talk about habits. Sleeping habits , eating habits or even morning toilet habits. Everyone has his or her own habits , some are knowingly and some aren’t. In fact , we are creatures of habits. We like to think of ourselves as “thinking” beings but in actual fact , we are slightly more than a mechanical calculator we used to carry to school.
And it does make sense when you think about the fact that most of our brain is devoted to daily survival activities. Purely routine activities but nonetheless complex. It is said that if you have to think about the way your body functions for you to eat an apple , you will starve. It is extremely complicated activity!
Let’s try to simplify each step , shall we?
- Move your hand towards the apple. (A complex hands-eyes coordination is required)
- Grab the apple and move it towards your mouth. (another hands-eyes coordination activity)
- Open the mouth wide enough to bite the apple.
- Chew the apple. (Extremely extremely complicated process involving mouth , teeth and tongue)
- Swallow the apple. (Neck muscles and whole other muscles I do not know)
- Digest it in stomach acid.
- Extract nutrients.
- Push the waste down to the bottom.
Phew! I have probably skipped more than written above because this is not a medical journal , it is writers’ journal. Anyway, you get the gist. It is complicated , complex and confusing. So stop thinking about the whole thing and just finish up the apple.
But that also means that by changing , for the better obviously , our habits , we can also change ourselves for the better and vice versa. Do you make it a habit to eat healthy food? Good for you. Do you exercise regularly? Even better! And so on.
To conclude , make better habits!
