Writers’ Journal #40 – Wallpaper

Spread the love

Ding! Dong!

“Honey , I’m home!”

The bell rang and I heard the my wife’s voice not soon after. I closed off the laptop , unplugged the power and got off from the desk. It was a sign that my day was over , at least to me. I promised her last week that I would help her with the wallpaper on our bedroom’s walls whenever I could take leave. I was on my leave that day and well , a promise given was a promise to keep.

I helped her with carrying the wallpaper bundles from her arm to the bedroom while she parked the car into the garage. Our home was at the end of the one way road so parking was much more convenient than those houses in front. They would have to look left and right for the neighbor’s cars but we need not have to. So my wife , who wasn’t a good driver , especially at reverse parking , could do it comfortably and safely by herself.

She came into the house and to second floor , where our bedroom was , even before the garage door had closed. She paused before coming into the room and went back down stairs. And came up again , that time with 2 bottles of mineral water. Clearly , she knew my habits about needing to take a sip every now and then. She didn’t want this to be interrupted at all.

She had the idea when she was visiting her friend last month and she couldn’t stop talking about it till I promised to help her with the makeover. Not to my surprise , she bought 2 sets of wallpapers , just to see which one of them would look good. She eventually chose one and we started moving the furniture out of the room. It was hard work but we sort of did it within a short time.

It was before lunch when the room was cleared and our stomach were making noises. We ordered a pizza from our favorite pizza store and had a quick lunch. We went back to work as soon as lunch was over and by evening , our wall was full of stars.

The End
