After 2nd night of the disappearance , an emergency meeting was held among the remaining guests. Major Sholto , a man with stellar military experience , was unanimously designated to be the chief investigator of the incidents. His first task was to find out the source of the envelopes and he immediately went about interviewing the butler. The butler admitted nothing except that each evening when he went to the jetty to collect the letters from the boat , he would find that there was already an envelope in the box.
And each time , the boatman will refute that it came with him from the mainland. So Major Sholto made the announcement the next day that the envelope must have been originated from the island itself. And it would also mean that the the murderer , if those disappeared were murdered , must also be from the island itself , probably one of the guests. The conclusion was too chilling for some as they protested how impossible it is noting that each of them were fully accounted for by another.
Then the night came and the dinner. That night , there were no envelope for the butler and disappeared and nobody did disappeared they next morning. For the next few days , it continued that way and just as everyone thought it was over , I had arrived and another envelope after dinner. Clearly , I knew what to be done next after learning the mystery and horror of the events that took place on the resort. I must seek Major Sholto immediately.
I got up from the chair , thanked Mrs Jamie for her explanation and went about looking for the Major. I last saw him in the dining room so that was the first place I went to. But apparently , he had already left for bed and that was my next destination. His room was just next to mine as we said goodnight the night before. I climbed up the stairs like an Olympic sprinting champion and went around the corridor to the bedrooms. I soon arrived in front of the room and knocked , quite heavily I might add , on the door of Major Sholto.
There was no sound coming from within the room so I knocked several more times and even resorted to banging on the door with my fist and shouting out his name. The resulting noise ensure that I got much more attention than I expected but none from the room itself. In no time , all the guests were with me in front of the room , and soon , the butler himself arrived with the master key to the room.
But Major Sholto was nowhere to be found. Not in the room and seemed nobody else had seen him after my encounter with him in the dining room.
“Envelope! The Envelope!” , shouted Mrs Jamie.
I took out the envelope from my left pocket and tore it down in half. Just as expected , only a piece of paper was found contained and on it , a name was written.
Major Sholto.
