Soon, they were outside George’s room and they could hear his voice along with the voice of the elderly gentleman that Malee had met earlier. Without knocking on the door, Georgia pushed down the handlebar and barged into the room. The looks on George and the elderly gentleman was a princess. Malee suspected Georgia did it intentionally for such a look on their faces. George’s face turned to annoyance once he saw it was his sister that disturbed his training.
“What are you doing here?” asked George. He knew very well she need not take any language lessons, and the surprise visit was just another of her games. If he had his ways, she would stay at the hotel instead of in the house with him.
“I am here to see my brother. Must I need a reason?” replied Georgia with an innocent smile, to more annoyance looks from George. He stood up but stopped once he saw Malee was standing behind Georgia. Malee closed the door quietly and looked at the usual staring contest of the twins. She wondered if she should go out to call Mary for help when the elderly gentleman spoke.
“Hi, you must be Georgia. I am Sokrates and I am a professor of linguistic at the university.” greeted the gentleman in perfectly spoken Thai language with his hand extended to Georgia.
To his surprise, and none for George, Georgia shook his hand and replied in a language that Malee had never heard before. They conversed for several minutes before Sokrates replied in Thai for both George and Malee’s sake.
“You can speak Greek perfectly. Excellent!” said Sokrates.
Georgia smiled and replied in several languages which Malee had never heard before, and from the look on George’s face, neither had he. His face looked darker by the minute as Georgia spoke with Sokrates. Malee was sure Georgia noticed it, but she wasn’t about to stop before George had completely lost his mind. Malee wondered what would Mary would do in such a scenario. She would have to think quickly or else George would scream soon.
“Oh, you can speak the European languages perfectly. You must be the girl that Professor Gramefore mentioned a long time back. A child prodigy from Thailand that he taught.” replied Sokrates.
“Professor Gramefore? Yes. He taught us the foundation of languages, isn’t it George?” replied Georgia. She was apparently enjoying herself in the intellectual superiority over her brother.
Malee must intervene. “Georgia, sorry, young mistress, can you show me how to wear the dress we bought yesterday?” interrupted Malee. Georgia turned around sharply and stared at Malee. She wasn’t about to get her fun spoilt by a mere servant. Malee looked down on the floor so as not to get in eye contact with Georgia.
“Ok. Lets go.” said Georgia before waving goodbye to Sokrates and going out of the door. Malee gave a bow to both George and the elderly gentleman before following Georgia back to her room.
“No wonder George let you in his room.” said Georgia once they were back in her room.
“Sorry?” replied Malee. She didn’t understand what Georgia meant, except the room must meant George’s drawing room. Malee took the chance to apologize to Georgia.
“Sorry about just now. George, I mean the young master, didn’t look very good on his face.” whispered Georgia while bowing to Georgia.
“They have shielded him since young. Weak. He won’t survive in the real world.” retorted Georgia. “But you would. I can see you have both brain and brawn for your class. Well done.”
Malee noted the word Georgia used to differentiate between Malee and herself, but ignored it. It was true. She was a servant at most.
“You said you wanted my help with the dress? Well, might. Go get the black dress from the carpet. And your feet is about my size. Lets play doll, shall we?” smiled Georgia. Malee too smiled, knowing this was the worst that happened after she interrupted Georgia. It could have been much worse, she consoled herself.
She went over to the door that Georgia pointed beside the bed and opened it to find a room with dresses and giant mirrors. Malee stood in amazement at the various colours and dresses on at the side and the watches and golden shimmering chains in the glass cases. Georgia chuckled at Malee.
“It is called a walk-in wardrobe. Seen it before?” asked Georgie, knowing full well the clothes themselves are worth more than what most people had saved over their lives.
Malee could only shake her head in wonder and in despair.
