She was holding an empty glass in one hand and a Chinese paper fan in the other. Without need to guess , she was coming to fill up her cup in the dining room. She seemed like an amiable and trusting lady from the first glance , so I softly tugged her hand as she was entering the room.

“Mrs Jamie? Did I get it right?” , I whispered.

“Yes , yes. Jamie alright. I know it sounds like a boy’s name. Everyone says so. But my mother insists ..”

“I have something to ask of you. Can we meet in the lobby in a while?” , I was forced to interrupt her as it seemed she was about recite her entire life story right there and then.

“Yes , of course. What is it about?” , replied Mrs Jamie , mimicking my lowered voice.

“I will explain later” , I spoke and then left her to go in the dining room to fill in the glass.

We met shortly in the lobby and I suggested we sat down at the chairs near the fireplace. Instead of showing her the envelope , I learnt my lesson as I suspected she too would ran away as soon as she seen it, I started on whether there had been any strange things happening before I arrived. She paused for a while , probably to judge whether I was someone she could trust , before continuing.

“How much of it do you know?” , she asked.

“Nothing! I just think some of the guests are behaving strangely” , I replied.

“Well , if you must know. And I think you should. You are not one of us. It happened a few days ago , ” , she said.

The events as she told me were as follows. They were having dinner and the butler handed one of them an enveloped as he had handed to me a few minutes ago. The envelope was opened immediately and it contained a piece of paper with the name of one of the guests. It was thought of as no more than a joke and everyone went for bed as normal. The shock came the next morning when during breakfast , they discovered that the guest mentioned in the envelope disappeared from the room.

It went on that way for next few nights , and each person whose name is written in the envelope will duly disappeared the next day. A search was conducted all over the island without success. There were no sounds of struggling during the night or blood. He , or she, just simply disappeared off the earth without any explanation.

Just as I was half-way out of the room , I accidentally bumped into Mrs Jamie , family lawyer from Australia.
