Writers’ Journal #51 – Murder on the island resort – Part 7

“Ahem , I would volunteer” , said I.

“Do you? Do you Sir?” , someone near the bar stood up. I recognized from the voice as Thomas , who was the son of a wealthy businessman from South Africa. He gave me the impression of a man who just just left the shell of his boyhood not too long ago. Delicate yet charming.

“Are you aware of the situation we are at Sir?” , he continued. “We are being hunted one by one on this damn island that we came to heal!”.

“Yes , yes.” , a few more echoed the young man’s sentiment.

A general murmur spread throughout the group as everyone turned to his or her neighbor for opinion. Then just as I was about to leave when an elderly gentleman besides me stood up. Then all went silent and fixed their eyes at him. I later learnt he was a well-respected criminal lawyer from downtown New York.

“I think” , he paused. “I think we should give this boy a chance” , he continued. “He sounded sincere. And more importantly , he had just arrived yesterday and would look into the issue with the fresh eyes”

With no other sound coming from the group , he gently sat down.

“May we know what do you do?” , Thomas asked.
